Surf Kayaking
There is nothing quite like the experience of catching a wave and feeling its power as it carries you effortlessly in to shore
While specialist craft exist, surf kayaking is possible in almost any short, closed-cockpit kayak or sit-on-top. For the most rewarding experience, kayaks with flat bottoms and "rails" tend to be best.
If you are comfortable paddling a kayak on flat water then you have the skills you need to give surf kayaking a go in a coached group. While the surf might appear intimidating at first, a coach will be able to introduce you to the discipline at a rate that suits you, building your confidence in the shallows and arming you with the technique and skills to progress to carving green waves.
Surf Trips
At UHCC we normally run at least two surf kayaking trips a year, to Bude in North Cornwall. All members are welcome to join the fun, from beginners to advanced kayakers.
Shoreline Extreme Sports are based at Crooklets Bay in Bude, the home of UK surf kayaking. They are World Champion surf kayakers who provide excellent coaching for all abilities and ages, as well as training international teams!
The beaches at Crooklets Bay, Summerleaze, Widemouth Bay and Sandymouth are all surfable, depending on the conditions and paddler abilities.
There are many options for accommodation to suit all budgets in and around Bude. Club members often stay at Wooda Farm, which offers neat, clean camping facilities as well as nice warm static caravans for those wanting a little more luxury.
